At the end of June this year, the International Union for Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) organised its Forest World Congress in Stockholm, Sweden, which takes place every 5 years, to discuss all aspects of forest-related topics. We are happy to say that PathFinder was present and was not only able to disseminate the project but also interact with other projects present as well as the wide range of forest stakeholders and actors. There were approximately 4 300 delegates at the congress, with over 3 500 presentations. More information can be found on the IUFRO website.
Our coordinator Johannes Breidenbach (NIBIO) presented the results of the project as well a co-organised a session “The new age of forest monitoring: A common European forest monitoring system in a global perspective” which was moderated by the coordinators of our sister projects ForestPaths and ForestNavigator, Hans Verkerk and Fluvio di Fulvio respectively. More information can be found by clicking here. There was also a poster session led by our coordinator Johannes Breidenbach alongside partner Alessandro Cescatti (JRC).
Other project partners were present as well at the congress and presented on:
- ALU-FR: Spatial and economic robust optimization of selected forest ecosystem services under climate change, considering biodiversity conservation
- EV-INBO: Spatial and temporal patterns of carbon stocks in European forest soils (session Nitrogen Depositions in a changing climate: Trends and Implications on Forest Ecosystem Services)
- INIA-CSIC: Assessing the influence of the minimum sampling size and element piece in deadwood stocks;
- NIBIO: Assessing the transferability of nationwide forest attribute models to different spatial resolutions using airborne laser scanning data in Norway – harmonization of data products for EU monitoring
- VTT: Mapping and estimation platform for EU-wide forest monitoring with integrated field and remotely sensed data” (Session on New Age of Forest Monitoring)
- WSL: From litter to soil carbon – harmonizing soil carbon stock estimates for a common European forest monitoring system (session New Age of Forest Monitoring)
We are also very happy to announce that the new IUFRO President is our very own Dr. Daniela Kleinschmit from our German partners and WP4 leaders ALU-FR! We wish her all the best in this new endeavour! More information can be found here.
