The deadwood map is a spatially explicit projection of deadwood stocks in Mg/ha in 10 m spatial resolution and European-wide coverage. The maps were derived using National Forest Inventory data stored in nFIESTA repository. We used the deadwood stocks as the response and, as predictors, the quadratic diameter of trees on each plot, living aboveground biomass, mortality (natural losses), proportion of conifers as well as climatic variables from CHELSA and physiographic variables from the Copernicus Digital Elevation Model. We used a Random Forest approach to model deadwood stocks and to predict it in the 10 x 10 m grid.
The map can be viewed in the PathFinder portal. A paper describing the product is currently under review. The map will be made available for download upon publication.
