The CLUMondo map collection provides spatially explicit projections of diverse land systems across Europe from 2020 to 2100 at a 5-year temporal resolution and a 1km spatial resolution. The initial land system classification is derived from Sandström et al. (2023). Within these land systems, five forest management intensity classes are distinguished based on Scherpenhuijzen et al. (2025): unmanaged forests, low-intensity forestry, combined objective forestry, intensive forestry, and very intensive forestry.
The dataset encompasses results for four distinct forest management scenarios: (1) biodiversity focused forests, (2) participatory forest stewardship, (3) multifunctional forests, and (4) competitive forest industry. These scenarios were co-developed by translating qualitative stakeholder visions into quantitative model parameters through a systematic document analysis, stakeholder workshops, and an expert survey. Comprehensive details on the scenario implementation and the corresponding annual datasets are available in Scherpenhuijzen et al. (2026).
While the model was executed up to 2100 to provide essential long-term results for subsequent PathFinder simulators, land use demand parameters were kept stable beyond 2050 due to increasing uncertainties associated with late century socio economic projections. Consequently, the core analysis and published outputs focus on the yearly intervals up to 2050.
The maps can be viewed in the PathFinder portal. A paper describing the product is currently under review. The maps will be made available for download upon publication.
