Gross Primary Production (GPPx) maps
GPPx is a โgeo-centricโ indicator of site productivity potential in European forests. It is based on an algorithm that systematically combines measurements from the Sentinel-2 HR-VPP annual product bundle (Smets et al. 2024) with the PathFinder forest aboveground biomass map (Miettinen et al. 2025), local climatic information (CHELSA v2.1) and an ecosystem light use efficiency model founded on optimality principles (i.e. the P-model; Wang et al. 2017; Stocker et al. 2020) to isolate and remove the obfuscating effects of forest structure (management- and age-related) on site productivity.
